Saints have turned the corner
Last updated on January 23, 2011 at 12:42 AM

The Dubuque Fighting Saints appear to be back to their pre-Christmas form after a pair of impressive victories this weekend.

On Friday night, they looked dominant in a 5-2 win over Des Moines, a team that had beaten them three straight times, including twice last weekend. They played with heart and looked like they were having fun on the ice, something that eluded them in going 1-4-2 immediately after returning from the holiday break.

For a while on Saturday, it didn't seem like the Saints would be able to build on Friday's momentum. But, they scored three unanswered goals in the third period to erase a 3-0 deficit and beat a red-hot Lincoln Stars team in a shootout, 4-3. Throughout that third period, the Saints looked confident and the only question was: Will they have enough time to tie it up? The power play came through for a pair of goals, and the Saints stormed their way back to win.

Both wins were huge for the confidence level in the locker room. If the Saints continue their winning ways, this weekend will be looked upon as the turning point in the season.
