Wind farm to Dubuque County?
Last updated on January 23, 2009 at 05:43 PM

EcoEnergy, LLC, a renewable energy company based in Freeport, Ill., has a plan to construct a wind measurement tower seven miles northeast of Dyersville, in hopes of developing a turbine farm and an operations and maintenance facility.

I was surprised to find out how big the wind energy industry has become. The state of Iowa ranks third in the nation in wind energy production, according to the state's economic development office, and has almost 1,200 wind turbines in operation. Most of Iowa's wind farms are concentrated in the western and north-central parts of the state. The area's closest wind farm is located in Bremer County.

The general consensus from people I've talked to in Dyersville is that a wind farm would be welcomed as a form of alternative energy.

What do you think about the possibility of Dubuque County's first wind farm?
