History

* Cedar Rapids Museum of Art, home of the largest single collections of work by Cedar Rapids natives Grant Wood and Marvin Cone, along with printmaker Mauricio Lasansky and sculptress Malvina Hoffman. Hours are 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Tuesday throught Saturday; and noon-4 p.m. Sundays. Call 319/366-7503 or visit www.crma.org.

* National Czech & Slovak Museum and Library, 30 16th Ave. SW. Largest collection of Czech and Slovak costumes in the United States. Old world traditions such as the art of egg decorating, glass making and bobbin lace are preserved. Also, a turn of the century immigrants house. Located in a historic Czech neighborhood with ethnic shops and restaurants. Hours are 9:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday, and noon-4 p.m. Sunday. Call 319/362-8500 or visit www.ncsmi.org.

* Science Station, 427 First St., SE, This is a high-quality, high-learning science and technology museum. More than 100 hands-on exhibits are on display relating to light, energy, dinosaurs, sound, weather, computers and more. Hours are 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, and 1-4 p.m. Sunday.  For information, call 319/363-4629.

* Seminole Valley Farm in Seminole Valley Park, northeast of Cedar Rapids. Open Sundays May through October, 1-4 p.m. and tours or picnics other times by appointment. Listed on the National Register the park is a resorted 1900s-era family farm with outbuildings and history exhibits. Call 319/378-9240 or visit www.community.iow.com/ic/seminole.

* The History Center, 615 First Ave., SE. Featuring exhibits, programs, a library, tours and more Hours are 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday; 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Thursdays, and noon-4 p.m. Sundays. For more information, call 319/362-1501 or visit www.historycenter.org.

* Usher's Ferry Historic Village, 5925 Seminole Valley Trail. Located on a 10-acre site in northeast Cedar Rapids, the villages 30-plus homes and buildings show life before electricity and indoor plumbing. Open June through August. Hours are 1-4 p.m. Thursday-Sunday. Call 319/286-5763.
