AttractionsArts and crafts: There are numerous galleries, studios and shops throughout the area. Exhibitions change throughout the year. An art fair is held the first full weekend in June and a Country Christmas celebration is held the first weekend in December. American Players Theatre: The theater presents plays in an informal outdoor setting. All of the plays are performed Tuesdays-Sundays evenings, including matinee performances on Saturdays. The company performs plays from Shakespeare and other masters. This year's lineup is: "You Never Can Telll" by George Bernard Shaw, preview June 10, opens June 18; "King Lear" by William Shakespeare, preview June 11, opens June 19; "Much Ado About Nothing" by Shakespeare, preview June 17, opens June 26; "Pericles" by Shakespeare, preview July 30, opens Aug. 7; and "Master Builder" by Henrik Ibsen, preview Aug. 6, opens Aug. 14. Performances end Oct. 3. Patrons are advised to wear comfortable clothes and shoes for the walk on the path to the theater. A shuttle is available. Architectural driving tours: Spring Green and area. See architectural treasures that have been designed or influenced by Frank Lloyd Wright. There are 28 buildings for viewing, and some are available in tours given by the Frank Lloyd Wright Visitor Center. Call 608/588-7900 for information. Biking: There are bike routes north and south of the Wisconsin River. Each contains its own challenges. Bob's Riverside Camp: One mile west of Spring Green on Shifflet Road. Camping, canoe and tube rental, lounge, picnic area, bait and propane. Call 608/588-2826. House on the Rock: 5754 Wisconsin 23. Check out huge fireplaces, streets of yesterday, a collection of the greatest automated music machines in the world, a huge carousel, dolls, circus items, ships, armor and transportation styles. Building of the complex started in the 1940s, and additions have been added throughout the 1990s. The Heritage of the Sea opened in 1990 and displays hundreds of model ships. The centerpiece is a 200-foot sea creature engaged in a struggle with a giant octopus. Tours available through Oct. 31, starting at 9 a.m. Holiday season tours run Nov. 7-Jan. 2. Cost: Ages 13 and older, $15.40; ages 7-12, $9.25; ages 4-6, $3.75. Call 608/935-3639. Rural Musicians Forum: Musical offerings throughout year featuring local, regional and professional musicians. At various sites and times. Call 608/588-2042 for dates and times. Shopping: Whether its antiques, handicrafts, books, foods or jewelry, one the area's shops can be a source. Taliesen: Wisconsin 23, three miles south of Spring Green. Tours available of site of Frank Lloyd Wright's home, studio, theater and farm in the scenic countryside. Visitors center open daily. Tours are May-October. The Hillside Studio and Theater Tour costs $10 and is one hour in length and is daily from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. The Walking Tour is $15, two hours long and is daily at 10:45 a.m. and 1:45 p.m. through October. Picnic and scenic facilities, along with restored shot tower and campsites, hiking and nature trails. Call 608/588-2116. Wisconsin River:- Canoeing, boating and fishing the Wisconsin River and its sloughs and tributaries are summer pastimes. Canoe rentals and shuttle service available. Green area was settled by Welsh, English, Norwegian and German Immigrants.
Early industries were dairy and produce farms, lumbering and cheese making.
Newcomers have included many artists and craftspeople, producing rustic
furniture, pottery, jewelry, handmade paper and other decorative arts. * 40 miles west of Madison, are Frank
Lloyd Wright's Hillside Home School of Architecture and Taliesin Associated
Architects. The public buildings of Wright's home and studio, Millside, are
open for tours. For information, call 608/588-7900. * Hillside Home School: One of the
most impressive features of Hillside Home School is the massive drafting studio
constructed by the fellowship. The complex contains a jewel-like theater Wright
created from the school's gym where elegant parties were held and an art
gallery, which exhibits his famous Broad Acre City Model Wright-designed furniture
and selections from his Oriental art collection. * Unity Chapel, located near the
junction of Wisconsin 23 and County T, four miles south of the village of
Spring Green. Governed by a board of directors, which consists of descendants
of Richard and Mary Thomas Lloyd-Jones, their spouses and a representative of
the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation. The purpose of Unity Chapel Inc. is to
maintain and develop appropriate long-range use for the Lloyd-Jones family
chapel known as Unity Chapel and to encourage support of the chapel and to
maintain family record. Fishing* Canoeing, boating and fishing the

Parks* Tower Hill
State Park, near Spring Green, has picnic and scenic facilities restored shot
tower and campsites. There are also two municipal parks,
both of which offer tennis. One of the parks has an Olympic-sized swimming pool
that is open to the public. Camping* Bob's
