Attractions

The name "Strawberry Point" goes back to the days of 1841, when Iowa was still a territory. To celebrate the town's unusual name, members of the historic community have mounted a symbolic strawberry at the site of the City Hall. Each year the second weekend of June is designated as" Strawberry Days", and marks the beginning of three days of activities. Free strawberries and ice cream are served on the last day of the festival.

Berry Nice Antiques offers the shopper yet another opportunity to browse. The Wilder Museum houses an amazing doll collection in addition to local artifacts and antiques (10 a.m.-5 p.m., Memorial Day-Labor Day or by appointment, 563-933-4920 or 563-933 2233). The community is also the home of the world's biggest strawberry, which can be plainly seen upon entering the town.

Just south of Strawberry Point, off Highway 13, take Highway 410to Backbone State Park. The 1,780 acre park offers camping, hiking, nature trails, swimming and fishing, as well as fantastic scenery.
