Wisconsin Parks

* Bagley -- Wyalusing State Park, 10 miles from Prairie du Chien. The Wisconsin River was the pathway for early explorers and fur traders. Park has campgrounds, picnic facilities, hiking and nature trails.

* Belmont -- Belmont Village Park, on Mound Avenue (Wisconsin 126), has pavilion and shelter house with running water, tennis and basketball courts, playground and shaded picnic area.

* Belmont Mound picnic area, two miles north of Belmont on County G, consists of 78 acres and offers picnic facilities, shelter house, plus hiking and a spectacular view from the top of the mound. A 60-foot observation tower offers a beautiful view.

* Bond Park on Park Street, features shelter house with running water, playground equipment, sand volleyball court, softball diamond and hiking trail next to the Pecatonica Trail.

* Boscobel -- Kronsage Park features restrooms, playground facilities, three shelters and volleyball, basketball and horseshoe courts. Swimming pool and school athletic area nearby.

* West Side Park has restrooms, shelter, playground area, basketball court and a softball diamond.

* Memorial Park features playground facilities and a monument dated to 1907 for the Unknown Soldier, honoring the Civil War veterans and all unknown dead veterans.

* Boy Scout Park features playground area, fishing and basketball.

* Fireman Park features restrooms, softball diamond and playground area.

* Moran-Daugherty Park features a playground area.

* Cassville -- Riverside Park has four shelter houses with electricity available, picnic tables and barbecue grills, restrooms, playground area and 12 free boat slips on main channel. Wildlife observation deck and viewing scope.

* Nelson Dewey State Park, one mile north of Cassville, including campsites, restrooms, showers, playground, overlook, large shelter house with fireplaces and water, three miles of hiking trails, quarter-mile self-guided nature trail, picnic areas with water, grills and tables, and facilities for handicapped. Open all year.

* Darlington -- Swimming Pool Park features an outdoor municipal swimming pool, lighted tennis and basketball courts, large picnic area and playground.

* Black Bridge Park features green space for field games, lighted sand volleyball courts and boat launch into the Pecatonica River.

* Pecatonica River Trails Park, adjacent to the Cheese Country Recreational Trail, features 25 camping sites, a canoe launch and playground equipment.

* River Trails Park features a lighted softball diamond, lighted basketball court, canoe launch and playground equipment.

* Yellowstone Lake State Park, located 12 miles from Darlington, offers more than 150 camping units, picnic sites, swimming, beach, hiking, fishing, hunting and an array of water sports. In the winter, there are snowmobile trails and ice fishing. The lake, which is two miles long and a quarter-mile wide, is surrounded by 1,900 acres of state-owned land.

* Dodgeville -- Governor Dodge State Park, 4175 State Road 23, north of Dodgeville, second-largest in Wisconsin and third-busiest with nearly 300 campsites and more than 5,000 acres of varied terrain. Park features a variety of summer and winter recreational activities.

* Fennimore -- Marsden Park has picnic area, swimming, playground, restrooms, volleyball, basketball and tennis courts. For reservations, call 608-822-4898.

* Oakwood Park, a 45-acre nature park, offers visitors a glimpse of native trees and flowers, with a variety of birds available for bird lovers to view. The park offers more than three miles of hiking and cross-country ski trails. RV camping is available with a shelter and restrooms. For reservations and information, call 608-822-6119.

* Hazel Green -- Hazel Green has a park located on the south end of town along Wisconsin 80 on Recreation Drive. During the year you can find soccer, softball, baseball, flag football and other activities being held. A pavilion is used for weddings, family reunions, birthday and graduation parties. The pavilion can be reserved by calling the village of Hazel Green at 608-854-2953.

* Mineral Point -- Soldiers Memorial Park has Olympic-sized municipal pool, sheltered picnic area, restrooms, playground, tennis court and ballfield.

* Water Tower Park, on U.S. 151, has sheltered picnic area, restrooms and playgrounds.

* New Glarus -- Sugar River Trail, a 23-mile trail linking New Glarus and Brodhead, an abandoned Milwaukee Railroad line, is now a bike, hike, cross-country ski and snowmobile trail. For information, call 608-527-2334.

* New Glarus Woods State Park is a combination of acres of forest, prairie and farmland. The park includes camping, trails and a picnic area. For information, call 608-527-2335.

* Platteville -- Fourteen city parks offer picnic facilities, lighted ball diamonds, lighted tennis courts, basketball courts, lighted horseshoe courts, playground equipment, family aquatic center with a 140-foot waterslide and concert band stage.

* A public skateboard park is located on East Main Street. Hiking and biking along the Rountree Branch Trail from the University through Platteville's newly developed Community Arboretum and Natural Gardens is a unique experience starting at Katie's Garden at the Chamber of Commerce and following the Rountree Branch stream.

* Potosi -- Grant River Public Use Area, built by the U.S. Corps of Engineers for picnicking, boating, camping and other recreation. It is two-and-a-half miles south of Potosi on the Mississippi River and near the Indian mounds at Osceola.

* Prairie du Chien -- LaRiviere Park, located on Vineyard Coulee Road, southeast of Prairie du Chien. Provides hiking, nature, skiing, bridle trails, picnic area and shelter house.

* Lawler Park, St. Feriole Island. Mississippi River front park. The Julia Belle Swain and Mississippi Explorer dock at this park for river cruises. It has facilities for family picnics.

* Shullsburg -- Badger Park has municipal pool, tennis courts, picnic facilities, two shelters and lighted softball and baseball field. It also is home to the Shullsburg Area Veteran's Memorial, honoring and listing area veterans who have served our country with honor from the civil war to the present.

* Spring Green -- Tower Hill State Park, near Spring Green, has picnic and scenic facilities, restored shot tower and campsites.

* There also are two municipal parks, both of which offer tennis. One of the parks has an Olympic-sized swimming pool that is open to the public.

* Wauzeka -- Husher Park, a roadside park overlooking the lower Kickapoo Valley, has picnic tables and lookout towers, located on Wisconsin 131, five miles northeast of Wauzeka.

* Village Park has shelter house, fireplace, toilets, water and ball field.
