A closer look at the USHL Clark Cup semifinals: Dubuque vs. Sioux Falls

Here is the USHL's breakdown of the Clark Cup final four. Both series drop the puck for Game One of the best-of-five series on Friday, April 29th.   


WESTERN CONFERENCE FINAL
 
#1 Dubuque Fighting Saints vs. #3 Sioux Falls Stampede
 
They met just twice during the regular season and now meet for the first time ever in the USHL postseason.  The two games were played in a span of a week in January with the Stampede capturing wins in both contests – a 2-1 overtime victory on January 7th in Sioux Falls and then a 4-1 win on January 14th in Dubuque.  Both clubs swept their opponents in the second around to advance to the Western Conference Final.
 
-       Sioux Falls tied for the lead in the Western Conference during the regular season with 20 home wins while Dubuque tied for the most road wins (18).
-       Sioux Falls led the Western Conference with 197 goals and Dubuque was tied for second with 195 goals.
-       The Stampede scored the second most goals on home ice in the USHL (108) while the Fighting Saints scored the second most goals on the road (105)
-       Dubuque scored the first goal of the game in a League best 41 contests during the regular season.
-       Sioux Falls averaged the second highest amount of shots on goal per game (32.78) while Dubuque gave up the third fewest shots per game (27.47) during the regular season.
-       In the playoffs, the Stampede are tied for the League lead averaging 4.50 goals per game while the Fighting Saints have given up just two total goals in three playoff games.
-       Sioux Falls is averaging 37 shots per game in the playoffs to Dubuque’s 22.3 per contest.
-       Sioux Falls owns the top power play in the postseason (26.9%) while Dubuque has yet to give up a power play goal in 16 shorthanded situations thus far.
-       Sioux Falls forward Kyle Rau leads the USHL with six playoff goals in six games.
-       Dubuque goaltender Matt Morris leads the postseason with a .974 SV% and Sioux Falls goaltender Stephon Williams leads with four victories.
