This Saturday, children age 16 or younger have a chance to reel in some prizes along with their fish. The annual Kids Fishing Derby takes place — rain or shine — from 9 a.m. to noon at Bergfeld Pond near Seippel and Chavenelle roads in Dubuque.
Participants are asked to bring their own poles, although a few will be available to borrow. The Bait Shack will provide free bait.
Children will receive a prize for their first fish of the day, and a grand prize winner will be announced the following week.
Sponsors include Hy-Vee and the Telegraph Herald. Proceeds benefit The Dubuque Boys and Girls Club.
